DR Congo is well connected to two of the host countries. From Kinshasa (FIH), Kenya Airways flies nonstop to Nairobi and Air Tanzania nonstop to Dar es Salaam, and Lubumbashi (FBM) in the south-east has nonstop flights to both cities on the same two airlines (checked September 2026).
Entebbe and Zanzibar need one connection, which works through Nairobi or Dar es Salaam. Ethiopian Airlines, via Addis Ababa, is the other option from both Kinshasa and Lubumbashi and serves all four gateways.
French is the official language, but Swahili is one of DR Congo’s four national languages, so many Congolese travellers — especially from the east — will share a language with their hosts; for everyone else, English is the working language of hotels and transport in the region.
US dollars circulate widely alongside the Congolese franc (CDF). The central bank has said it plans to restrict cash-dollar payments from April 2027 while keeping dollar accounts and electronic payments, so check the rules nearer departure if you intend to carry dollar cash.
