Kenya’s main international airport and the largest hub in East Africa, on the south-east side of the city.

  • Wilson Airport (WIL) — Domestic and light-aircraft field close to the city, used for safari charters to the Mara and the northern parks.

We meet you inside. Arrival transfers are part of every package, so you are met at the terminal rather than negotiating transport after a long flight. We do not publish a journey time — traffic makes any figure wrong for most of the day.

Getting around Nairobi

What we run for you, and what exists locally — kept apart, because we are only accountable for one of them.

    A named driver meeting you inside the terminal, and vehicles booked for the days you need them. This is the part we run, so it is the part we can promise.

Match-day transport: no tournament shuttle, park-and-ride or stadium access arrangement has been announced for AFCON 2027, in Nairobi or anywhere else, so we do not promise one. We do not publish journey times either — traffic decides those, not us. Once venues and kick-off times are official we build your match-day movement into the itinerary and tell you exactly what it involves.

Getting around on your own

  • Ride-hailing apps

    Uber, Bolt and Little all operate in Nairobi. Cheapest of the door-to-door options, and the fare is agreed in the app rather than at the window.

  • The Nairobi Expressway

    An elevated toll road running above Mombasa Road from the airport side of the city to Westlands. Taxis and private cars use it; it avoids the worst of the surface traffic and costs a toll.

  • Matatus

    The city’s minibuses — cheap, everywhere, and routed by numbers locals know rather than by signage a visitor can read. Fine with someone who knows the route, hard alone.

  • The SGR to Mombasa

    The Madaraka Express standard-gauge railway links Nairobi with Mombasa from the terminus south-east of the city. The practical way to add the coast to a tournament trip without flying.

Useful travel information

The questions people actually ask before booking Nairobi — including the ones where the honest answer is "not yet known".

  • Good to know
  • Nairobi National Park begins at the edge of the city — it is the only national park of its kind inside a capital, and a half-day is genuinely possible between matches.
  • M-Pesa mobile money is used almost everywhere, including by taxis and small restaurants. Cards work in hotels and malls; cash is worth carrying in small notes.
  • The city sits at roughly 1,700m. Evenings are cooler than most visitors expect for the equator, and June and July are Nairobi’s coolest months.

  • Kenya is a confirmed joint host of AFCON 2027, but CAF has not yet published the host cities, the stadiums or the match schedule. Until it does, nobody can say which matches will be played in Nairobi. We will say so here the day it is official, and we do not guess in the meantime.
