Zanzibar’s airport just south of Stone Town, with the short hop from Dar es Salaam alongside regional and seasonal international flights.

We meet you inside. Arrival transfers are part of every package, so you are met at the terminal rather than negotiating transport after a long flight. We do not publish a journey time — traffic makes any figure wrong for most of the day.

Getting around Zanzibar

What we run for you, and what exists locally — kept apart, because we are only accountable for one of them.

Match-day transport: no tournament shuttle, park-and-ride or stadium access arrangement has been announced for AFCON 2027, in Zanzibar or anywhere else, so we do not promise one. We do not publish journey times either — traffic decides those, not us. Once venues and kick-off times are official we build your match-day movement into the itinerary and tell you exactly what it involves.

Getting around on your own

    Plentiful at the airport, the port and in Stone Town. There are no meters, so the fare is agreed before you set off.

  • Dala-dalas

    The island’s shared minibuses and converted trucks. Cheap and local, slow and not built around luggage.

  • The ferry from Dar es Salaam

    Fast passenger ferries connect Stone Town with the mainland terminal in Dar es Salaam.

Useful travel information

The questions people actually ask before booking Zanzibar — including the ones where the honest answer is "not yet known".

  • Good to know
  • Zanzibar is semi-autonomous and runs its own immigration desk — you pass through it even on a domestic flight from the mainland.
  • The east-coast beaches have a very large tidal range; the north coast is the one where you can swim through the day.
  • The island is predominantly Muslim. Beachwear belongs on the beach and covered shoulders and knees are expected in Stone Town and the villages.

  • Tanzania is a confirmed joint host of AFCON 2027, but CAF has not yet published the host cities, the stadiums or the match schedule. Until it does, nobody can say which matches will be played in Zanzibar. We will say so here the day it is official, and we do not guess in the meantime.
